For sale is this lovely 18k yellow gold, opal and diamond Fleur De Lis Brooch. It is set with 37 rose cut diamonds, approximate. It is also set with 3 lively colored opals, approximately. The brooch weighs 5.3 grams and measures a little over 1" high and 1" wide. It is in very good condition considering its age.
There are a few chipped diamonds that I can see with 10x magnification, although it is possible that it could be the cut. I've taken pictures through my loupe which is 10x magnification so you can judge the condition for yourself. "The fleur-de-lis, also spelled fleur-de-lys (plural: fleurs-de-lis, or fleurs-de-lys)[pron 1] is a stylized lily (in French, fleur means "flower", and lis means "lily) that is used as a decorative design or symbol. Since France is a historically Catholic nation, the fleur-de-lis became "at one and the same time, religious, political, dynastic, artistic, emblematic, and symbolic", especially in French heraldry The fleur-de-lis has been used by French royalty and throughout history representing Catholic saints of France; particularly Virgin Mary and St.
Joseph are depicted with a lily. There are many other countries that associate the Fleur-Di-Lis with royalty - You can read more about the Fleur-de-lis here. There is an inscription on the tip of the bottom crest of the brooch with a name that is hard to discern. It has been tested and determined to be 18 carat gold. This beautiful brooch would make a wonderful addition to any fine antique jewelry collection.Very good - there are a few chips to the diamonds that I can see with 10x magnification - they are visible to the naked eye if you are really looking for them but does not take away from the beauty of the brooch. The brooch fitting looks like it was a replacement - I can see where they soldered the fitting on and there is now a safety on the locking mechanism instead of an ordinary C clap.
