Antique Victorian or Edwardian brooch. 18k rose / red gold, silver, diamonds and pearls. Made in France, circa 1890 - 1910. Measurements: Weight is 4.8 grams. Approximately 1 5/8 inches (4cm) long.Description : A charming, small brooch that epitomises the light and airy spirit of the Edwardian era with late Victorian sentiments. An oval gold gallery, warmly glowing red, suports an openwork, chorus of scrolling vineleaves / foliage. Each leaf facing the opposite direction to it's neighbours. Foliage, composed of diamonds set in silver to show it off to better advantage, alternates with small pearls. The Victorians read a lot of symbolism into botanic symbols, fruit and flowers, most of which is lost to us today. We can however, appreciate the beauty of nature and it's transformation into a beautiful little work of art that will highlight even the plainest outfit. While this is a small, understated jewel, the workmanship of of the highest level and reflects the pride of the artisan in his creation.
Marks and Metal: There is a mark on the pin, which is unclear and possibly part of the French owl mark. To ensure metal purity, we acid tested the gold.
